Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has reported a net loss of Rs 10.49 billion in the April-June quarter (Q1) of 2025-26, which is an improvement compared to a loss of Rs 15.42 billion a year earlier. However, the telco registered a loss after back-to-back quarterly profits of Rs 2.80 billion and Rs 2.62 billion in the preceding quarters.
Revenue from operations rose 14.5 per cent year-on-year to Rs 50.26 billion, aided by the launch of commercial 4G services across nearly 100,000 sites. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) jumped 335 per cent to Rs 15.01 billion, while total expenses fell 9.4 per cent sequentially to Rs 68.40 billion. Further, employee costs surged 39 per cent quarter-on-quarter to Rs 19.40 billion, weighing on overall performance.
The ministry of communications has set a target for BSNL to boost mobile services revenue by 50 per cent and enterprise revenue by 25-30 per cent in 2025-26. The government has earmarked Rs 470 billion for BSNL’s capex, following the telco’s record Rs 250 billion spending last year. The operator has soft-launched 4G services in Delhi and expects nationwide rollout to lift revenues by at least 10 per cent.
