BSNL will reportedly start providing enhanced data rate for global evolution (EDGE) services in 18 cities and 64 villages of Gujarat with immediate effect. EDGE, an extended version of the global package radio service (GPRS), which allows data downloading from the internet to mobile handsets, will be offered to BSNL users in small towns and villages. BSNL, which has around 900,000 users in Gujarat circle, will offer two schemes for subscribing to EDGE services. Reportedly, 18 cities have been covered so far.
