Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Viasat will deploy K-above (Ka)-band satellite systems for the Indian Navy as part of a satellite communications equipment modernisation programme scheduled to begin in late January.

Under an agreement signed between BSNL and the Indian defence forces, Viasat’s high-capacity Ka-band satellite systems will be rolled out alongside the existing long (L)-band infrastructure to deliver enhanced and secure connectivity for Indian naval platforms.

The programme will enable the Indian Navy to move towards a multi-band, multi-constellation satellite communications strategy, leveraging BSNL’s gateway earth station and Viasat’s global satellite network to offer wider coverage, higher throughput and improved reliability for mission-critical operations.

Additionally, Viasat’s international government unit will support the initiative under the company’s communication services segment.
