Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced that over 75 per cent of its mobile towers across Hyderabad have been upgraded to 4G, with plans underway to upgrade the rest and set up an additional 2,430 sites to enhance coverage. The move is part of the public sector telco’s broader push to modernise its network and deliver seamless 4G connectivity across the city.
The company said the upgrade ensures improved user experience, with enhanced speed and reliability for mobile customers. It also reaffirmed its commitment to developing and rolling out indigenous 5G technology soon.
The telecom operator has simultaneously upgraded its transmission backbone in Hyderabad to the Metro Aggregation Access Network (MAAN), boosting bandwidth for both 4G mobile services and fibre-based fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections in urban areas, as well as BharatNet-powered services in rural regions.
To further improve connectivity, BSNL has commissioned a new International Gateway (IGW) in Hyderabad. This reduces dependency on the Chennai hub, significantly improving internet speed and lowering latency for local users.
Moreover, inn a strategic organisational update, BSNL also announced the creation of Operational Area-3 (OA-3), headquartered in Lingampally. This new zone will focus on high-demand regions like Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Kondapur, and Lingampally, targeting the fast-growing digital needs of high-rise apartments and emerging urban clusters.
