
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has lost 0.13 million subscribers owing to mobile number portability, according to news reports. Moreover, even though the company managed to attract nearly 92,000 subscribers on its network, 0.22 million subscribers have left its service.
Similarly, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has lost 10,355 subscribers and gained 4,486 users since MNP was launched on January 20, 2011.
Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Information Technology, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, said the main reasons for porting out are network/coverage and tariff issues.
He added that the major steps taken/being taken by BSNL to retain the existing customers and add new customers include forgoing porting fees from subscribers coming into BSNL network. BSNL has also formed special cells in its circles to contact customers and address their grievances.
