BSNL Kerala has deployed 6,979 indigenous 4G sites, including mobile towers and base stations, to deliver high-speed data services and improved indoor call coverage across the state.

According to a company, the rollout of indigenous 4G, designed to be upgradeable to 5G, marks a step towards self-reliant telecommunications, enabling high-speed data and clearer voice services.

Out of the total sites, 322 have been installed in tribal areas, hilly regions and underserved border locations, helping bring previously unconnected regions into the digital ecosystem.

The company added that unlike earlier generations, the 4G network is based on a fully indigenous technology stack, developed in collaboration with organisations such as C-DOT and a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services.
