BSNL is planning to set up a JV with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for manufacturing broadband equipment at BSNL’s telecom equipment factory in Kolkata. The proposed JV will design and develop a range of ADSL2+ customer premises equipment models exclusively for BSNL according to the specifications of the Telecom Equipment Commission and BSNL, while taking into account the prevailing market conditions in India. Apart from investing in the production line, the OEM partner will be responsible for arranging funds to meet the working capital needs of the JV. After meeting BSNL’s requirements, the JV company will be free to sell the equipment in the open market.
