According to Kapil Sibal, minister of telecommunications and IT, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has been witnessing a decline in the number of landline telephone connections owing to the substitution of fixed line connections with mobile phones.
However, despite the decline in its wireline user base, BSNL is focusing on strengthening its position in the wireline broadband segment. Currently, BSNL is providing broadband services using technologies such as fibre-to-the-home, 3G, EVDO and Wi-Max.
In addition, BSNL is in the process of strengthening the sales and distribution channel of its landline and broadband connections and introducing various tariff plans to enhance its landline subscriber base and improve quality of services.
