Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) employees’ union has urged Ashwini Vaishnaw, the newly appointed minister for communications and electronics and information technology, to ensure that the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) clears its Rs 300 billion due to the telco, in order to provide some aid to the stressed public sector unit (PSU).

In a letter, the Bharatiya Telecom Employees Union (BSNL), an affiliate of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, said DoT has been casting a ‘Nelson’s eye’ toward BSNL.

According to the letter dated July 10, 2021, the dues include Rs 13.789 billion in viability gap funding for rural telephony, Rs 83 billion for surrendered Wimax and CDMA spectrum, and Rs 10.51 billion for BharatNet funding.

Furthermore, the union pointed out that poor marketing methods not in line with current techniques plague BSNL resulting in a loss of revenue and market share.
