According to the Ministry of Communications (MoC), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), have become earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBIDTA) positive in the first-half of FY 2020-21.

Further, the ministry in its 2020 review added that the telcos’ mobile data cost per GB has come down to as low as Rs 10.55, with wireless data usage being 75.21 EB during the period of January 2020 to September 2020.

The salary expenditure in BSNL and MTNL has reduced by around 50 per cent (approx Rs 6,000 million per month) and 75 per cent (approx Rs 1,400 million per month) respectively, it added.

The government further confirmed the initiation of the process for spectrum allocation for 4G services to BSNL on a pan-India basis including in Delhi and Mumbai. In this regard, the funds have also been provisioned in FY 2020-21.
