According to the Ministry of Communications, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and internet service providers (ISPs) have installed nearly 1.2 million fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections using the BharatNet infrastructure.
The overall data usage on BharatNet for October 2024 is about 1,39,498 terabytes (TB).
As of December 2024, the ministry reported that 6,92,428 km of optical fibre cable (OFC) has been laid under BharatNet, with 2,09,281-gram panchayats (GPs) being service-ready on OFC. Additionally, 5,032 GPs have been connected via satellite media, resulting in a total of 214,313 GPs ready for service.
Further, the implementation of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for telecom equipment manufacturing has significantly boosted the sales of domestically produced telecom and networking products, showing a remarkable increase of 500 per cent in the financial year 2023-24 (FY24) compared to FY20. Additionally, the sales figures indicate an increase from Rs 48.61 billion in FY20 to Rs 297.26 billion in FY24.
