Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN), cybersecurity, smart meters, surveillance systems, and electronic supervisory control and data acquisition (eSCADA) with the objective of offering an ecosystem of cost-effective products under the Make in India programme.
According to BSNL, the MoU enables it to promote indigenous technology development with the aim to meet the government’s Make in India initiative. The telco also intends to transition from a network service provider to a managed connectivity provider by collaborating with strategic partners across the IT and telecom segment. The telco already offers a comprehensive range of services to public, government and private organisations in business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) segments.
As per the state-run operator, ECIL’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and cutting-edge innovation will be leveraged with the widespread network of BSNL across India to offer value-based offerings to customers across B2B and B2C segments. The MoU enables BSNL to roll out indigenous offerings similar to 4G network rollout.
Meanwhile, according to ECIL, it is well equipped with systems and processes to develop telecom and IT equipment of current relevance in the telecom market and would be promoting proper supply chain management of SD-WAN, routers, radios and switches which can be deployed by BSNL in their networks.
