According to Robert J Ravi, chairman and managing director (CMD), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the telco has enhanced its telecommunications infrastructure by activating over 65,000 4G radio towers across India. This initiative aims to improve coverage and capacity using the 2100 MHz and 700 MHz spectrum bands, which are crucial for ensuring strong signal penetration, particularly in challenging environments and indoor settings.
He added that this next-generation network, built on indigenous technology, is designed to address security concerns related to personal data and provide robust protections for critical sectors such as banking and public services. The deployment of a specialised “crack team” in each telecom circle is part of BSNL’s strategy to maintain optimal quality of service (QoS) and conduct test drives to ensure performance standards are met.
The telco is likely to roll-out commercial 5 5G services in select areas based on the network-as-a-service (NaaS) model by mid of this year.Furthermore, a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which includes the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT), is currently working on deploying an additional 100,000 sites for BSNL’s commercial 4G rollout.
