Brasil Telecom has sealed a $1.1 billion deal with Alcatel-Lucent for the maintenance of its network. According to the terms of the two-year contract, Alcatel-Lucent will handle the administration and maintenance of the company’s fixed line and wireless telephony infrastructure as well as that of the data transmission network.
Network maintenance was one of Brasil Telecom’s principal outlays, accounting for nearly 10 per cent of all expenses in the first nine months of 2007. Other companies in line for the contract included Ericsson and NSN.
