Blackstone Group is expanding its data centre presence in India and reportedly plans to invest over Rs 100 billion to develop a large hyperscale digital infrastructure hub in Chennai. As part of this plan, Blackstone’s data centre platform Lumina CloudInfra has acquired a 16-acre land parcel in Ambattur, within the Chennai metropolitan region, for over Rs 5 billion. The proposed hyperscale campus will have an initial IT load capacity of 216 megawatts (MW).
The investment positions Blackstone Group among the largest data centre owners in India, with a total potential capacity exceeding 700 MW. The move also highlights the growing interest of large institutional investors in data centre-led real estate assets.
The land transaction was carried out with support from the Bengaluru-based Beary Group, a real estate developer specialising in data centre project execution. The Chennai facility will further strengthen Blackstone’s rapidly expanding data centre portfolio in India.
