
Bharti Cellular has launched services in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This region, which falls in the West Bengal telecom circle, will see an investment of Rs 200 million for the rollout of cellular services. The rollout is based on a GPRS mobile network, which has been deployed on a VSAT backbone.
The service will be available in Port Blair and the adjoining islands initially. As a promotional offer, Airtel customers in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be able to call Kolkata and Chennai at Re 1 per minute.
