Bharti Airtel’s net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 has grown by 48 per cent to Rs 7.5 billion compared to Rs 5.1 billion in the same period last year. Total revenues for the period under review grew by 53 per cent to Rs 38.56 billion, up from Rs 25.17 billion a year ago. The strong performance was a result of the company’s highest ever net addition of 3.65 million customers in a single quarter. Its growth can be attributed to the overall rapid growth in mobile usage as well as Airtel’s reach amongst 46 per cent of the country’s population and its focus on expenses and economies of scale.
