As part of its expansion plan in Africa, Bharti Airtel is going to invest about $100 million in Rwanda. The company is looking at launching 3G services in the country within the next quarter.
Bharti Airtel launched its operations in Rwanda in March this year. The company plans to invest the aforementioned amount in Rwanda over three years, thereby, generating direct and indirect employment opportunities within the country.
Currently Rwanda?s capital city Kigali is operating on a 2G network, Bharti Airtel plans to launch 3G services in the city within the next quarter. It is also looking to ink partnerships with various vendors, such as IBM and Ericsson to set-up and manage supporting facilities and services in the country.
The company started its operations in Africa in 2010 by acquiring Kuwait-based Zain Telecom for about $10.7 billion. Bharti Airtel is present in 16 African countries including Burkina Faso, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Madagascar, Niger, Nigeria, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
