
Bharti Airtel has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China Mobile for facilitating growth of the long term evolution (LTE) ecosystem and evolving mobile technology standards. Both the companies will also work towards procuring devices that include Mifi, smartphones, data cards, LTE CPEs and USIM.
The partnership is also aimed towards exchange of best practices and innovations to deliver affordable high speed mobile Internet. Both the companies will work for development of relevant technical standards and inter-operability testing. They will work together for understanding and sharing testing and validation practices and also jointly conduct proof of concepts as well as trials. China Mobile and Airtel will also aim to bring in cost efficiencies by their procurement strategies, among other collaborative efforts included in this MoU agreement.
India and China account for nearly a third of all the mobile subscribers globally. Bharti Airtel is of the view that this partnership will provide a major platform for development and deployment of 4G and future mobile technology standards as both India and China enter a phase of explosive data led growth.
