Bharti Airtel has launched its 3.75G platform in Zambia. This is the latest global HSPA+ technology which offers speed up to 21 mbps and is already being rolled out in Europe and USA. The improved technology will enhance multimedia functionality, high speed mobile broadband and internet access and will allow users in Zambia to make video calls, watch live TV, send and receive emails.

According to Fayaz King, managing director, Airtel, Zambia, the 3.75G technology will give Airtel customers the opportunity to access data in a different way. It will be beneficial for several user segments, including the youth, large corporate houses and small or medium businesses.

Currently, there are 280 Airtel 3.75G sites across Zambia which covers all provincial districts. The company aims to roll out up to 400 sites by the end of 2012. Further, Airtel is in the process of rolling out its data network across other markets in Africa with an objective of building the largest 3G network across the continent.
