Bharti Airtel is planning to outsource the management and maintenance of its 80,000 km intercity optic fibre cable network. The company is reportedly in talks with several vendors to finalise the five-year contract, which is estimated to be worth about $500 million. The deal is in line with the company’s policy of outsourcing non-core activities to save costs and focus on its core competencies. Airtel had earlier signed multi-billion dollar outsourcing contracts with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks for the management of its mobile network.
