
Bharti Airtel has increased its stake in the Wireless Business Services (WBSPL), a company founded by US-based chipmaker Qualcomm from 51 per cent to 93.45 per cent at an estimated cost of Rs 8.75 billion.
Following Bharti Airtel?s stake acquisition, the Qualcomm Asia Pacific now holds the remaining 6.55 per cent stake in WBSPL. Bharti Airtel acquired a majority stake in WBSPL in July 2013 by increasing its stake from 49 per cent to 51 per cent. Prior to that, in May 2012 the operator had acquired 49 per cent stake in WBSPL for $165 million.
Currently, WBSPL holds 4G spectrum in the circles of New Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala, whereas Bharti Airtel holds 4G spectrum in the circles of Punjab, Maharashtra, Kolkata and Karnataka.
