Bharti Airtel has awarded Huawei a telecom infrastructure expansion contract worth Rs 1.50 billion. The contract given to Huawei is part of an ongoing deal between Airtel and Huawei as part of which the latter is upgrading and expanding the former’s National Long Distance (NLD) network.
The order is part of an existing deal between Huawei and Airtel and is in compliance with the National Security Directive on Telecommunication that allows continuation of old contracts.
NLD optical transport network is considered to be the crucial part of a telco’s network as it carries inter-circle and international traffic and helps manage the network capacity. It also carries internet traffic and traffic from main landing stations. Earlier, in March 2021, Airtelhad awarded a similar contract to Huawei worth Rs 3 billion.
