
Bharti Airtel has awarded a three-year contract to China-based Huawei Technologies for the supply of base transceiver stations and other equipments for the operator?s 4G network in the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu circles. With the networking and telecom equipment of Huawei, Airtel will be able to launch 4G services using the frequency division duplex-long term evolution (FDD-LTE) technology using the spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in the two circles.
Airtel has already deployed Huawei?s equipment for its time division duplex-LTE (TDD-LTE) network in the Karnataka and Delhi circles, using spectrum in the 2300 MHz band.
Airtel has spectrum in the 2300 MHz band in eight circles, while it won spectrum in 1800 MHz band in 15 circles in February 2014.
