Bharti Airtel has awarded a 3G network contract to Nokia Networks in the Mumbai, West Bengal and Bihar circles. According to the deal, Nokia Networks will provide the single radio access network (RAN) advanced platform to Bharti Airtel. Nokia Networks will set up a dual band, dual carrier technology that will allow Airtel to combine spectrum in 900 MHz band with that in the 2100 MHz band in the Mumbai circle. It would also support the operator in rolling out 4G services in both the 2300 MHz and 1800 MHz bands.

Nokia Networks will deploy its Flexi Lite base transceiver station to enable Airtel to offer better network coverage in high density areas. Further, it will install an all-IP multicontroller RNC (mcRNC) as part of the contract.
