Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is in the process of revamping its operations in the Uttar Pradesh (East) circle.
The project, which involves setting up of 141 Wi-Fi hotspots across the Uttar Pradesh (East) circle is set to be completed in 2015-16 and will cover 17 cities in the circle. The company has already set up Wi-Fi hotspots in Varanasi and Sarnath to provide free internet access to users. It is in the process of identifying locations to set up Wi-Fi hotspots and the equipment for the same is being procured.
Meanwhile, BSNL has been upgrading its 3G infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh to offer better voice and data services. The company has also been mandated to connect 37,455 village panchayats in Uttar Pradesh (East) under the ongoing National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) project.
In another development, BSNL has launched a new scheme, which allows its mobile customers to receive incoming calls for free when on roaming across India.
