Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has asked Idea Cellular to sign the fresh interconnection contract in the seven circles -Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Kolkata, North East, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. BSNL has further stated that any delay in signing of the new contract might lead to disconnection of services in the seven circles. It has also requested the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to intervene in the matter.

BSNL has asked Idea Cellular to sign new contracts as the earlier interconnection agreement between the two operators expired following the cancellation of 2G licence for the seven circles of the latter by the Supreme Court in February 2012. With Idea Cellular receiving new unified licence for the seven circles after it bought spectrum in the November 2012 auction, BSNL wants Idea Cellular to sign new interconnection agreements.

Apart from the new agreement, BSNL has also asked Idea to pay the outstanding provisioning charges at the earliest to ensure the mobile services in these circles remain uninterrupted.
