Bangladesh-based Grameen Telecom has offered Telenor Nkr 2.6 billion to give up control of the joint venture, GrameenPhone.

According to Mohammad Yunus, GrameenPhone should be owned by the poor women of Bangladesh. To this end, Grameen Telecom is aiming to acquire 51 per cent stake in GrameenPhone.

Consequently, Telenor will have to reduce its stake from its existing 62 per cent to 49 per cent. The two companies are currently negotiating the deal.
