According to Strategy Analytics, even though 5G networks will be in a nascent stage of growth in 2020, Asia-Pacific will take the lead in establishing 5G commercial networks.
The research firm underlines that the telecom industry is expected to witness continued innovation with growing demand for more agile, ubiquitous, virtualised networks and cloud services coupled with energy sensors and ad hoc networks for the Internet of Things (IoT) market. Further, the future of IoT will be determined by availability of ubiquitous energy harvesting and ad-hoc sensor networks. Innovation in these areas will eventually transform industrial processes, consumer applications, healthcare and government.
Besides the emergence of IoT, the telecom industry will also witness the growth of network architectures built on software-defined networking and hybrid self-optimising networks.
