Asia Netcom, the wholly owned subsidiary of China Netcom, has selected Lucent Technologies to supply a next-generation optical communications platform to upgrade its pan-Asian submarine network, known as EAC. The new platform will enhance Asia Netcom’s ability to deliver next-generation bandwidth services with a variety of advanced transport and connectivity services in the Asia-Pacific region. The 19,500 km long EAC network connects Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines and Singapore. It will soon extend to China as well through a new cable extension.
