The government of Arunachal Pradesh has set December 2023 as the deadline for telecom service providers (TSPs) to ensure that all villages in the state’s Tawang district have a telecom network.

During a two-day visit to Tawang, Parul Gaur Mittal, special secretary, State Council for IT and e-Governance, Department of IT and Communication, Arunachal Pradesh, held a review meeting with the deputy commissioner (Tawang), all the administrative officers and TSPs to speed up the installation of mobile towers. She said that the service providers should take the administration into confidence before going for survey and planning and installation of towers in various locations and villages. Further, Mittal added that TSPs should fast-track civil works, taking advantage of the season, to meet the deadline of December 2023 set by the government to connect all villages, especially in the border areas, with telecom networks.

In the presentations made by the TSPs, it was informed that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has 18 sites in the district where works are in progress. Reliance Jio informed that its telecom service fibre is laid up to Jaswant Garh, and will be operational by the end of April 2023.
