Anritsu Corporation has announced the release of its 64-Gbaud PAM4 Pulse Pattern Generator (PPG) and 32-Gbaud PAM4 Error Detector (ED). The PAM4 BERT supports 400 gigabit ethernet (GbE) testing when these modules are installed in Anritsu’s signal quality analyser-R MP1900A series, which, in turn, helps in implementing a bit-error-rate test solution with high signal level quality and excellent Rx sensitivity for next-generation broadband communication systems. Anritsu has released these modules to manage the data traffic resulting from next-generation 5G mobile communications.
The 64-Gbaud PAM4 PPG with high signal level quality and the 32-Gbaud PAM4 ED with excellent Rx sensitivity performance support the evaluation of equipment and devices for high speed, large capacity transmission. Further, the new PPG for PAM4 signals up to 64 Gbaud have one of the best Tr/Tf (20 per cent to 80 per cent) times of 8.5 ps (typ.) and intrinsic jitter of 170 fs (typ.). In addition, the multi-channel function can be expanded up to four channels, and the integrated Emphasis function can correct signals degraded by transmission path loss.
Meanwhile, the 32-Gbaud PAM4 ED module has a high sensitivity performance of 23 mV (typ.) and supports the installation of a clock recovery function*7 required for Rx sensitivity evaluation, as well as PAM4 symbol error measurements. As a result, the true performance of 400GbE optical modules and devices can now be tested within an adequate margin, satisfying the specifications.
Apart from this, the multichannel expandability helps in reducing the measurement time by using the simultaneous measurement of multiple lanes. Moreover, the easy combination with jitter and noise addition functions to configure an all-in-one test solution for evaluating Rx sensitivity helps in improving development and testing efficiency.
