Amit Batra: Head, Service Operations, ACME

Of his 18 years of professional experience across the power and telecom sectors, Amit Batra has spent almost eight years with ACME. He started his career with DB Power as an engineer and subsequently moved to Emerson Network Power before joining ACME in 2008.

At ACME, Batra is responsible for supporting enterprise services (network and managed) operations including service delivery, assurance, and management; field operations; facility support; technology operations; business delivery for power- and telecom- critical operations; and infrastructure management. “My key focus is to enhance service capabilities and customer-facing activities for the company across the country, with an emphasis on the industrial, banking and telecom segments. I am passionate about creating value and delivering technologies that have a positive impact on people’s lives,” he says.

Commenting on industry trends, Batra says, “The industry is facing several challenges, ranging from how to service basic communication needs to how to deliver complex services – all in a highly competitive market driven by regulatory challenges and issues. Increasing power availability for telecom sites is a key requirement. Though energy saving efforts are being made, there is a need to further cut energy costs by lowering operations and maintenance expenses. Renewable energy can help in this regard, as it can reduce the failure rate for passive equipment.”

One of Batra’s most memorable assignments was the introduction of an advanced mobile application for the field force. The application allows the tracking of electronic FSR generation, the inventory of spare parts and equipment with each engineer. “It is very fulfilling to work for skill development and the safety of your team members’ life,” he says.

Commitment and execution excellence are Batra’s key strengths. He follows a simple and democratic leadership style and provides ample growth opportunities for his team. “I strongly believe in mentoring the team and providing live examples to enable them to reach new heights through process innovations,” he says.

An electrical engineer by training, Batra also has an MBA degree. He often travels on work-related assignments given the company’s pan-Indian operations. He likes to spend his weekends with his family and friends, go on long drives and listen to music. His wife is a teacher and they have two schoolgoing daughters.
