Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has appointed computer architect Jim Keller as corporate vice president and chief architect of AMD microprocessor cores. 

Keller will lead AMD?s microprocessor core design business. He will be responsible for developing both high-performance and low-power processor cores that will be the foundation of AMD?s future products. 

Prior to joining AMD, Keller served as a director with the architecture group at Apple. Previously, Jim was a corporate consulting engineer at DEC. He is credited with developing two generations of Alpha processors during his tenure at DEC. Keller holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Penn State University.
