In a major cabinet reshuffle, the union government has elevated four junior ministers to cabinet rank and inducted nine new people. Former Kerala IAS officer Alphons Ka­n­na­nthanam has been appointed minister of sta­te, Minis­try of Electronics and IT (MeitY). A former commissioner of the Delhi Deve­lopment Au­thority, Kannantha­nam has also been appointed minister of state, Ministry of Tourism.
