According to a drive test conducted by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio have met the key performance benchmarks of 2 per cent call drop rate and 95 per cent call setup success rate in the Delhi-NCR region. However, state-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) was not able to meet key parameters for both voice and data for 2G and 3G networks.

The drive test was conducted by PhiMetrics Technologies for voice and data in 13 clusters of Delhi-NCR licensed service area for a period of 14 days from May 28, 2019 to June 22, 2019 between 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM covering a route of 2,220 kilometres and 21 hotspot locations.

The report suggested that 2G network performance has degraded between 2019 and 2018, while 3G and 4G has improved. Meanwhile, in 2019, except Airtel 3G, all other 3G and VoLTE service providers have failed to meet quality rate of 95 per cent.

Further, the report added that all metro routes have poor coverage issues leading to high drop call rate and block call rate, especially in the underground part of the metro track. 4G download throughput was highest for Airtel at 8.4 Mbps whereas Vodafone and Idea lead the upload throughput at 3.54 Mbps and 3.69 Mbps respectively. Idea was also the leader in both 3G and 4G latency test. Video streaming performance was best for Airtel on both 3G and 4G networks.
