
Alcatel Lucent has secured contracts worth a combined $400 million A from China Mobile and China Unicom. For China Mobile, Alcatel Shanghai Bell will provide mobile communications solutions and services, including GSM/GPRS/EDGE radio and core network equipment, worth $340 million. As part of a $120 million deal, Alcatel Lucent will help implement a range of network projects that China Unicom has undertaken or plans to undertake in 2007.
China Unicom is reportedly planning to upgrade its network in Macau to a CDMA2000 1xEVDO high speed data network. It also intends to expand its CDMA core network, radio solutions and applications. In addition, Alcatel Lucent will deliver GSM/GPRS/EDGE core and radio network solutions and optical network components for China Unicom’s GSM service offerings.
