Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a Euro 32 million contract by the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) to provid GSM/EDGE network infrastructure to BTC’s subsidiary, Vivatel.

Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a Euro 32 million contract by the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) to provide GSM/EDGE network infrastructure to BTC’s subsidiary, Vivatel.

According to the terms of the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will replace half of Vivatel’s current GSM base station network equipment and provide project management, testing, installation and multi-vendor radio network planning and optimisation. The network infrastructure deployed by the vendor will be such that it can be extended to support multiple standards such as GSM, GPRS, EDGE+ and 3G with a simple software upgrade.
