Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have reportedly reduced the ring duration for outgoing calls from their networks to 25 seconds from 35-40 seconds. The move comes after Reliance Jio had recently reduced its ringing duration to 20-25 seconds.
According to industry sources, both the telcos are reducing the ringer duration across all the circles.
As per Airtel, Jio’s changed ringer time has immediately affected traffic patterns for Airtel vis-a-vis Jio, dropping the ratio of 65 per cent: 35 per cent incoming to outgoing calls to 60 per cent: 40 per cent within 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the TRAI has recently issued a consultation paper to seek industry views on maximum ring time required to optimally use network resources. It has also reportedly asked telcos to arrive at a consensus on the matter before conclusion of the consultation process.
