Bharti Airtel has urged the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to postpone the withdrawal of interconnection usage charges (IUC) by at least three years from the planned deadline of January 2020.
As per Airtel, traffic symmetry has not been achieved between networks, besides over 400 million mobile users are still using 2G networks.
However, contradicting the argument, Reliance Jio said any delay in the regime would adversely impact TRAI and the government’s credibility. As per Jio, the move would reduce investor’s confidence in the telecom sector, further discouraging foreign and domestic investment.
