Airtel Uganda has received a National Telecom Operator (NTO) license after paying $74.6 million which includes a VAT amount of $11.4 million.

The new license is effective from July 01, 2020 and will be valid for a period of 20 years.

As per industry sources, the operator will continue to retain its existing spectrum and the scope of license will encompass basic telecom services, infrastructure services, and value-added telecom services.

Going forward, Airtel Uganda aims to achieve a 90 per cent coverage of the geographical area of Uganda from the date of license issuance with a minimum obligation of providing voice and data services.
