Bharti Airtel has reportedly started deploying 4G services in 900 MHz band across 10 telecom circles in an effort to enhance indoor coverage of the high-speed mobile telephony. Prior to this, the 900 MHz band was getting used to deploy 2G services.

As part of this procedure, Airtel has liberalised 900 MHz spectrum in 10 circles and the entire refarming process is expected to be completed over the next three to four months.

As of yet, the refarming of 900 MHz spectrum band for 4G services is underway in six circles of Delhi, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh, North East, Karnataka and Rajasthan. Eventually, the telco will extend the exercise to more circles.

The refarming of the 900 MHz is expected to further boost mobile signals inside buildings compared to signals transmitted in high frequency bands of 1,800 MHz and 2,300 MHz bands that are also in use for 4G services.
