Bharti Airtel has reportedly approached the government seeking a reassessment of certain aspects of the net neutrality rules as the industry prepares to launch 5G. As per the operator, the net neutrality rules should be applicable on content providers and over the top (OTT) players also like Netflix.

Moreover, while content providers had supported the creation of an independent multi-stakeholder body (MSB) for the monitoring and application of net neutrality regulations, Airtel along with other telcos like Reliance Jio has opposed such a move.

As per the telecom operators, setting up of an MSB is not required as net neutrality rules are part of licensing conditions enforced by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
