Airtel Rwanda has finalised the sale its telecom towers to an African telecom infrastructure company, IHS, which is now taking hold of the assets. IHS has acquired Airtel towers in Rwanda and Zambia, bringing the total number of acquired towers in the two countries to 1,100. IHS has been in management of the passive infrastructure since February 1, 2015.

Airtel is of the view that the deal will help bring about stability in networks. Additionally, it expects higher network uptimes across the country. Airtel will continue to lease its towers, which will also be opened up to sharing with other operators.

Earlier in December 2014, Airtel had revealed that the agreement will allow it to focus on its core business, customers, and enable it to deleverage through debt reduction, and will reduce its capital expenditure on passive infrastructure in African markets.
