Bharti Airtel has issued a letter warning its subscribers against increased number of cyber frauds wherein the customer is tricked into installing apps that can track all accounts installed in the device.

According to Airtel, under this method, fraudsters pretend to be Airtel employees and call or message subscribers asking them to complete their KYC process. The customer is asked to install the “Airtel Quick Support” app from Google Play store, which in reality does not even exist. When the customer tries to install the app, he/she is redirected to TeamViewer Quick Support app. This app allows the fraudster to remotely take over the device and accounts associated with the device.

The telco has issued warning against frauds related to digital payments where a subscriber’s one-time password (OTP) and UPI details are accessed to make payments. As a sanitary practice, the telco has asked its customers to use ‘Airtel Safe Pay’, which can be activated while using Airtel Payments Bank. In the payment method, while making transactions the option requires the customer to reconfirm their transactions.
