Bharti Airtel is ready to launch its 5G Standalone (SA) Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solution. Airtel’s FWA service is available in over 2,000 cities, and the company aims to double its broadband user base from 45 million to 80–90 million homes. In the last quarter of the year, Airtel added 1.9 million home passes via fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) wired broadband.
Airtel had been testing its 5G SA FWA solution, expecting it to be ready by December 2024. The company has now announced that testing is complete and it is fully prepared to activate the solution when needed. According to Airtel’s Gopal Vittal, managing director and chief executive officer, 1,000 customers have been testing the 5G SA FWA solution for the past few months. The company can easily transition its FWA users to SA because the network is fully ready.
