According to chief regulatory officer (CRO), Bharti Airtel, the company has identified over 71 billion calls and 2.9 billion SMS messages as spam as of January 2026, since introducing its artificial intelligence (AI)-based spam detection system in 2024.
The operator said it has also blocked more than 800,000 fraudulent links across its network and over-the-top platforms such as WhatsApp. Citing data from the Ministry of Home Affairs, he further mentioned that users on its network have experienced a 70 per cent lower incidence of scams compared to other networks.
He added that scam operations have evolved significantly, shifting from basic email fraud to highly organised activities run through sophisticated call centres.
Further, he noted that the AI-based system evaluates more than 250 parameters to detect patterns associated with spam and fraudulent calls.
