Bharti Airtel has said it has become the first telecom service provider to offer uninterrupted mobile connectivity on Kolkata’s Vidyasagar Setu across the Hooghly River.

The initiative, aimed at ensuring seamless voice and data services on the key arterial link connecting Kolkata and Howrah, involved laying 1.3 km of optical fibre across the bridge and installing network antennas on six poles to eliminate call drops.

The project was implemented in coordination with the government of West Bengal, the West Bengal police traffic department, and the Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners.

According to Airtel, reliable connectivity on this heavily used corridor is crucial for daily commuters, emergency response services, and efficient traffic management. Additionally, the company added that it has rolled out more than 5,250 new network sites across West Bengal over the past three years to strengthen network speeds and coverage across the state.
