Ribbon Communications has announced the successful implementation of a long-haul dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) system for Bharti Airtel, significantly increasing the telco’s bandwidth capacity to meet the rising demand for 5G and high-speed connectivity.
The deployment of DWDM fibre optics is expected to enhance 5G mobile backhaul and improve high-speed connectivity across Airtel’s extensive 30,000 km network.
Airtel has integrated Ribbon’s Apollo 9600 suite of programmable and open optical transport platforms, which support C+L bands, throughout its network. This upgrade has provided Airtel with a substantial long-haul network capacity of 51.2 terabits per second (Tbps), effectively addressing its increasing bandwidth needs. Additionally, Ribbon’s Muse platform facilitates operator-defined workflow automation, improving operational efficiency through real-time network monitoring and management.
