Airtel Africa, the international subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, has partnered with Dubai-based mobile satellite services provider Thuraya, to launch its products and services in 12 African countries. The move comes in line with the company?s strategy of tapping the growing demand for communications technology in Africa.

Despite rapid economic progress, many countries in Africa still lack terrestrial connectivity and often have to build new networks from the ground. With this partnership, Airtel?s customers will be able to avail Thuraya?s satellite phones and IP+ broadband terminals in Airtel Africa?s subsidiaries in Republic of Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya and Zambia. Going forward, Airtel Africa intends to further expand into its five remaining markets.
